Quality of Life assessment

End of life decision making is incredibly difficult, and very personal for every pet and owner. There can be many questions, stress, and sometimes feelings of guilt over deciding when the right time to say goodbye to your furry family member may be. Dr. Laura offers in home quality of life assessments to help you through this difficult time. This includes a discussion with you and your family about your pet’s medical condition, a physical exam, and tools to assess your pets quality of life on a daily basis.

At home euthanasia

Although one of the most difficult decisions you as a pet parent can make, choosing peaceful humane euthanasia for your beloved pet is one of the kindest things you can do for them when the time comes. It is truly an act of love when your pets quality of life is no longer there.

For some animals, a car ride and a trip to the vet is a stressful experience. Dr. Laura offers compassionate end of life care in a stress free and private environment – your home.

In the privacy of your home or back yard, in your pet’s favourite place, Dr. Laura can help your pet pass away peacefully and with dignity.

the process

Dr. Laura will first sedate your pet with an intramuscular injection which may take up to 20 minutes for your pet to fall asleep. Once sedated, and after you and your family has had enough time, Dr. Laura will administer a final injection into a vein. This final injection is painless and your pet will pass within a few minutes.

Some pet parents choose not to be present for parts or all of the euthanasia process, and that is OK. Your pet is in loving hands, and in a comfortable place within your home. How you choose to say good bye to your furry family member is up to you.

Aftercare options

A portion of the cremated remains will be deposited in an ossuary in memory of your pet. The cemetery is open for pet parents to visit.

  • At home burial

Some municipalities may allow you to bury your pet on your property. Please check with your local bylaws to determine if this is an option for you.
